Marina One

While researching London Mew homes, the inspiration for this new condo came from paired down Georgian architecture with a transitional influence.

Contemporary Georgian at Marina One

Keeping the palette neutral and calm, the design adheres to Feng Shui principles, creating a chic contemporary home. New condos are a blank slate to add personality and style, requiring plenty of planning and works to create a cohesive and layered style. While structurally we did not make many changes, we relocated the AC to raise the ceiling levels, re-faced existing carpentry doors and added architectural details to break the builder grade template. One wall was pushed back to create more common storage and a dedicated home office space.

The design started off with a coiffured ceiling design in the living room, decorating the ‘fifth wall’ for a detailed aesthetic. We then lined some of the walls with and updated wall panelling design in the living room and wainscotting in the private foyer. Here we handpainted the walls with an abstract landscape, following Feng Shui recommendations.

By changing doors, architraves and carpentry doors, more architectural detail was added, while keeping furniture contemporary and clean lined for that transitional vibe. Maintaining the open kitchen in the darkest part of the home, we kept the colours bright and added shaker style doors to face the cabinets and the island.

Large chandeliers were placed in the living and dining area, and the furniture is kept modern with a fun twist to upholstery choices to the custom-made side chairs.

Touches of transitional accessories and geometric patterned day curtains add a contemporary vibe to the traditional architectural details.

In the master bedroom, the walk-in wardrobe was replaced with fret-work wardrobes – lined with mirrors. A geometric wallpaper lines the headboard wall and a textured wallpaper laid on the rest of the walls. A custom bed is mixed with store bought furniture. To create more wardrobe space, a bedroom was converted into a dressing room – with new wardrobes.

The remaining bedroom was converted into a study area. The area was enlarged by shifting some internal walls and re-arranging of aircons. A custom wing chair adds a pop of colour and creates a cozy nook for reading or enjoying the view.

Completed in September 2019, the Marina One project shows how a new, bland condo can be changed to add detail and personality. The 3 bedroom Condo, a newly TOP project, was designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar, Principal Interior Designer at Aiden T Pte Ltd
