Quirky Contemporary at Country Park
After living in their apartment for over twenty years, the homeowners were at a crossroads—move to a new place or breathe fresh life into their existing home. They loved the location and, factoring in the high costs of buying a new property, ultimately chose a full-scale renovation.

To better suit their lifestyle, we reimagined the layout entirely. By flipping the space planning, we created a more spacious primary suite and a larger, more functional bathroom. The once open-concept kitchen was enclosed, offering much-needed additional storage without compromising flow.

With the layout resolved, we turned our focus to materiality. Since the homeowners share their space with pets, durability and ease of maintenance were key. We kept rugs and soft finishes to a minimum, and leaned into their preference for tiled flooring. Instead of going conventional, we played with layout and contrast—extending a dark wood tile from the passage into one-third of the living area and balancing it with a soft, natural tile that pushes back into the hallway. This thoughtful juxtaposition adds both visual interest and character.

We anchored the design with a monochromatic base: soft sandy neutrals complemented by rich, dark browns. Pops of texture and color were layered in through furniture and accents. Warm terracotta tones in the stone wall panels subtly pick up on this theme.
Embracing the homeowners’ love of the unexpected, we introduced a pebble-shaped dining table paired with cube chairs for a playful twist. Overhead, a striking hand-forged pendant from the Netherlands—complete with hand-blown glass—grounds the dining area. In the living room, a cluster of coffee tables in varying shapes and materials adds dimension and functionality.

All upholstery was chosen with pets in mind—durable, easy to clean, and custom-made for the space. To soften the overall look, we used a gentle lime wash on the walls and incorporated fluted panels that cast delicate shadows and light play throughout the day. For a clean, seamless aesthetic, all doors are frameless and finished in the same plaster as the walls, keeping attention on the curated floor design and carefully selected artwork.

In the kitchen, we embraced a darker palette—black carcass cabinetry paired with patinated copper doors, topped with a textured black countertop. Clean-lined walls keep the space low-maintenance, while hand-painted tiles collected by the homeowners during their travels were integrated into the backsplash for a personal touch.

The primary suite was reconfigured into two distinct areas: a generous walk-in wardrobe with a central island, and a calm, minimalist sleeping area separated by reed glass doors. The custom headboard, designed with a mix of materials, anchors the bed while maintaining the restful tone of the space.

By enlarging the primary bathroom, we created room for double vanities and a separate wet area. Bold natural tiles make a statement, balanced by fibreglass walls that allow the textures and quality of fittings to shine. Though the palette remains restrained, the interplay of pattern and materiality keeps the room visually dynamic.

This attention to detail continues into the powder room, where a bold integrated-sink countertop is paired with textured tiles and a sculptural designer faucet—proof that even compact spaces can pack a punch.
