Moody Modern Luxe at Kovan
It is a misconception to think that darker tones make a home feel smaller. With this in mind, Eileen embraced a moody scheme and injected Modern Luxury touches in the overall design scheme. Playing with textures and materiality, no wall was left without a designer touch.
The foyer serves an entry point, setting the tone for the entire home. It features a carefully selected blend of materials and textures to create an inviting and elegant atmosphere.
Entering the foyer, a touch of whimsy greets you in form of the Heron wall light. The floors are retiled with a feature pattern, carefully curated with a blend of different tiles. The walls are finished in a dark stucco, and the home embraces you like a warm hug at the end of the day. Ample storage was needed to keep the compact space tidy and neat, and this philosophy is echoed in the living space as well.
The design narrative in the living room begins with each element carefully curated to evoke a sense of timeless sophistication. This interior space, captured in exquisite detail, exemplifies the beauty of contemporary luxury and refined taste.
The deep, velvety blue walls anchor the space, creating a serene atmosphere. The rich, dark tones are complemented by the subtle sheen of finishings, adding depth and dimension to the room. This bold choice in colour is contrasted beautifully with the soft, neutral palette of the furnishings, creating a balanced and cohesive aesthetic.
The feature wall in the living area stands as a pivotal element, harmonizing the overall aesthetic while meeting the functional needs. Not merely a decorative element, the feature wall incorporates ample storage solutions, cleverly concealed within its design, ensuring that the living area remains clutter-free and organized. Additionally, the design of the wall ensures the privacy of the client by creating distinct zones within the layout. A concealed door disguised within the walls adds an element of mystery and surprise, making it difficult to discern which doors lead to other areas of the house.
The kitchen’s design concept focuses on creating a visually balanced and organized space, the aim is to ensure that the kitchen integrates seamlessly with the living area while keeping a clean, streamlined appearance.
The cabinetry doors are clad in a brushed metallic gold laminate, allowing light to bounce in the naturally darkest space of the home. An unconventional yet striking choice by Eileen that harmonizes with the brass elements throughout the home.
Given its small footprint, a lot of functionality is needed to be integrated into this space. To avoid exposed appliances, a countertop dishwasher replaces a traditional model. The washer-dryer unit and microwave, mounted on a pull-out system are both hidden behind carpentry doors. While a robot cleaner is discreetly stored with an accessible opening for daily use.
Concealed storage is a key feature, with drawers installed wherever space permits, such as at the base of the cabinets. A hanging rack is designed within one of the compartments, maximizing the space without compromising aesthetics.
By moving the dining area outside, the living area with its open kitchen is less cluttered and gives an illusion of a larger space.
The concept for this balcony revolves around extending the outdoors into the interior space. Overlooking a serene river and lush greenery, the balcony is envisioned as a tranquil retreat where one can relax, dine, entertain, and enjoy nature’s beauty. The design draws inspiration from Oriental influences that can be seen in the walkway wallpaper. Infusing this theme subtly, provides a refreshing contrast to the dark interior.
The space is multifunctional featuring a height-adjustable table that can transition between a cozy seating area and a proper dining spot. This approach enhances the usability of the space, making it perfect for both relaxation and entertaining.
The colour scheme embraces soft, earthy tones that echo the natural surroundings. Shades of taupe, beige, and muted browns dominate the space, creating a calming and cohesive palette that enhances the outdoor feel.
This balcony, a tranquil extension of the home, the overall design balances aesthetics with practicality, creating a versatile and inviting space.
The walkway, often an unassuming and overlooked area, is transformed into a significant design feature in this space. Despite its small size, it serves as an unexpected highlight that amplifies the overall design concept, adding an element of surprise and uniqueness to the home.
Upon entering through the concealed door, you are greeted by an area encased in exquisite wallpaper. This Adam and Eve inspired motif, featuring a harmonious color scheme of black, white, and gold, is a striking visual statement. The wallpaper seamlessly covers the walls, doors, and even the ceiling, blending the lines between these surfaces to create a continuous and immersive design experience. Eileen’s intentional application of wallpaper draws the eye away from the lower ceiling height, making the space feel more expansive and cohesive.
The doors leading to the bedroom and bathroom are adorned with the same trimmings and painted in a rich dark blue tone, mirroring the feature wall in the living area. This continuity in colour and design elements ensures a seamless flow throughout the home, enhancing the overall aesthetic cohesion. The dark blue tones contrast beautifully with the intricate wallpaper, creating a sophisticated and balanced look.
Adding a layer of texture and material contrast, brass handles are used on the doors. The warmth and sheen of the brass complement the tones of the wallpaper and paint, introducing a tactile element that enriches the overall design. This mix of materials not only adds depth but also elevates the luxurious feel of the space.
Two bedrooms were merged to create a spacious principal suite. The overall design concept centres around creating a serene and comforting oasis. Contrasting with the darker, cozier living area, this bedroom employs a brighter and lighter theme to evoke a sense of tranquillity and ease, perfect for unwinding.
The colour scheme primarily features muted, earthy tones—soft grays, warm taupes, and gentle beiges—complemented by subtle accents of darker shades to add depth and interest. This palette is intentionally chosen to foster a peaceful atmosphere, facilitating restful sleep and relaxation.
The walls are lime-washed with a pearl-like paint finish, introducing a refined texture that adds visual interest without overwhelming the space. This finish provides a subtle sheen, enhancing the room’s light and airy feel. In contrast, the headboard wall and side tables are adorned with a dark, textured wallpaper that mimics the colour scheme of the living area. This wallpaper has a slight sheen, adding depth and a touch of luxury. The textured surface contrasts beautifully with the lime-washed walls, creating a harmonious balance. The centrepiece of the room is a plush bed dressed in soft, neutral linens. While the side tables, customized to feature the same textured wallpaper as the headboard wall, create a cohesive look.
The built-in wardrobe and cabinet island are in a calming taupe hue, offering ample storage while maintaining a sleek and minimalist aesthetic. The cabinet island, placed in the centre of the extended bedroom, serves as both a functional and decorative piece. The island adds as additional storage and a display element for the client’s personal collection of watches and bags. The door profiles are designed to be in line with the kitchen door profiles to provide a consistent flow.
This bedroom represents blend of textures, colours, and carefully selected furnishings to create a sanctuary of peace and comfort. Design details—from the lime-washed walls and textured wallpaper to the cohesive colour scheme and elegant decor—come together to form a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and restful. This tranquil bedroom serves as a perfect counterpoint to the cozier, darker living area, providing a bright and serene retreat.
The bathroom reflects a sophisticated, elegant aesthetic, harmonizing with the serene, tranquil atmosphere established in the bedroom and the cozy, darker theme of the living room.
The design concept for this bathroom features a refined and serene space that offers both functionality and indulgence. The colour scheme is an elegant blend of dark and light tones. Soft grays and charcoals dominate the walls and floor tiles, creating a sleek and modern backdrop. These darker shades are complemented by the lighter, metallic finishes of the fixtures and fittings, adding a touch of understated glamour.
The floor and walls are clad in porcelain tiles that mimic the look of natural stone, providing a sense of continuity and cohesion with the rest of the home’s luxurious materials. These tiles not only enhance the visual appeal of the space but also ensure durability and easy maintenance.
The vanity cabinet, finished in a brushed silver laminate, features elegant panelling and is topped with a sleek black granite countertop. Above the vanity, a large, mirrored cabinet provides ample storage and reflects the light, making the space feel larger and more open.
Additional design considerations include the choice of fittings and fixtures. The black and brass hardware, including the door handle and towel rail, ties in with the faucet and sink, creating a cohesive and polished look. The overall design is carefully curated to ensure that every element, from the tiles to the accessories, contributes to the bathroom’s luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere.
