Joie de Vivre at Orchard Road
Our approach was to tell a story over different eras, curated through hues and materiality. With one of the nicest lay-outs we have worked on, this apartment allowed for different areas for entertaining as well as cosy family life. We changed the size of the foyer and added oval walls for a more dramatic entrance. Off the foyer, we have a powder room and additional storage. Dark hues on the wall and the checkerboard flooring adds to the drama.

A corridor was widened to create a large bar area, a perfect place for gatherings and pre-dinner cocktails. Custom cut tiles for the floors tie in with the foyer, while the gothic lines for the carpentry are boldly coloured. A custom bar cabinet in the same blue is lined with a subtle stained glass decal, further enhancing the medieval inspiration for this area.

The bar area leads into the dining area, where the colours are paired down and the vibe changes. A stacked ceiling adds volume to the space, while the walls are lined with silk wall hangings and offset with wainscotting. The sunburst carpet was designed by us and custom made, specifically for the space.

In the family room, the main inspiration was this wallpaper called Martini Cat, it set the tone for a moody vibe, accented with rich jewel tones. The wall panelling that offers extra storage, reference the wall treatments in the dining room, continuing the story of a home that lived through different eras and styles.

Ivory cabinets and a bold yellow island set the tone for the kitchen. For the carpentry, we picked an Art Deco pattern, customised the hood cover and lined the walls with wallpaper. The Skyscraper lights and custom cut French doors further enhance the Art Deco aesthetics. We integrated a pantry area and appliances bay for all small appliances.

It’s the Primary Suite where we added classic French detailing, with three colours on the wall and trim. Keeping the hues soft and warm, we created a retreat to unwind after a long day. Some clean lined furniture ties in the overall design of the home and pairing it with some classic pieces.
The walk-in wardrobe, with its classic shaker style doors leads to the Primary suite, where we placed a clawfoot tub against a bold wallpaper. We lined the walls with wall panelling and tiled the floor with a worn marble tile to add patina and character.

The primary suite contains a study area, where a fun wallpaper sets the tone. An upholstered wall softens the look. Throughout the house, we used different wallpapers, jewel tones and mixed antique looks with an Art Deco vibe.

Completed in July 2019, the Four Seasons project is an example of synergy between the designer and home owner to create a bespoke home that explodes with details and personality. Wallpapers and furniture were sourced overseas to implement unique features not found elsewhere in Singapore. The four bedroom condo, a resale project, was designed by Arjan Nijen Twilhaar, Principal Interior Designer at Aiden T Pte Ltd
