Conscious Design
Conscious design is about creating spaces that respect both people and the planet. Every choice, from how something is made to who made it and how long it will last, has an impact. By considering these decisions carefully, homes remain meaningful, responsible, and ready for the future.
Sustainability
Sustainability is about creating interiors that last in both beauty and purpose. Mindful decisions, from non-toxic, high-quality materials to energy-conscious solutions, support health, comfort, and longevity. Sustainability is woven into every aspect of a home, shaping spaces that are functional, elegant, and respectful of resources.

Arjan won awards for Best Retail Concept in 2004, is the 2017 winner of the Innovators in Design and 2018 won Best Residential Interior Designer, Singapore voted by LUX life Magazine.

We focus on timelessness, materials, and construction methods. Luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. When thoughtfully combined, they create interiors that feel enduring, culturally connected, and environmentally responsible.

- Timelessness
Designs that withstand the test of time reduce waste and remain relevant for decades. By focusing on enduring forms, proportions, and aesthetics, interiors stay beautiful and meaningful. - Materials
Choosing the right materials is central to conscious design. Durability, adaptability, and environmental impact matter just as much as aesthetic and tactile quality. Solid wood, natural stone, and high-quality textiles can be restored or repurposed, helping spaces remain relevant while reducing waste. - Luxury
Sustainability does not mean giving up elegance. True luxury comes from craftsmanship, attention to detail, and lasting quality. Pairing high-quality materials with artisanal skill creates spaces that are refined, timeless, and sustainable. - Cultural relevance
Design should reflect context and heritage. Drawing inspiration from traditional craft, motifs, and stories allows interiors to feel meaningful while remaining contemporary. Heritage can guide design without dictating it. - Stewardship
Beyond beauty, design choices carry responsibility. Using local resources, supporting skilled artisans, and planning for longevity ensures interiors benefit both people and the environment.

Cultural & Heritage
Heritage is about inspiration, not imitation. Every project starts with research, looking to the past to uncover ideas, techniques, and stories that can be reimagined for today. Historical elements become modern statements, not replicas, and are adapted to suit how people live now.

We aim to respect old traditions and crafts while keeping spaces practical and comfortable. In this process, luxury, craft, and sustainability naturally come together. Materials and techniques are chosen for their beauty, durability, and meaning, supporting skilled artisans and thoughtful design.

The result is a home that feels connected to its context, rooted in history, and yet fully contemporary. Interiors honour culture while making everyday living effortless and enjoyable.
Craft & Materials
Craft and materials form the foundation of how we live, shaping not just the look of a space but its integrity and meaning.

We prefer natural materials whenever possible, appreciating their authenticity, tactility, and timeless appeal. Every texture, finish, and detail is selected to combine beauty, longevity, and meaning, creating interiors that endure over time. When composites or man-made materials are required, we choose high-quality options that last and age gracefully. We also consider the impact of these materials on the world, ensuring our designs are enduring while reducing waste.

Craftsmanship is equally important. We collaborate with skilled artisans, local makers, and designers, supporting traditional techniques while honouring the originality of their work. Ethically sourced materials are a key part of this approach. Supporting cottage industries and smaller local companies sustains local economies and ensures traditional skills continue to thrive. Conscious design creates opportunities for many while keeping craftsmanship alive and relevant.

Luxury, sustainability, and craft come together naturally. By pairing high-quality, enduring materials with expert workmanship, interiors become elegant, functional, and meaningful. Materials do more than decorate. They tell a story, connect to heritage, and help create homes that can be enjoyed for generations.
Wellbeing
Our surroundings shape how we feel, move, and live. A thoughtfully designed home can restore balance, reduce stress, and uplift the spirit. Wellbeing in design goes beyond aesthetics. It is about creating environments that support healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives.

Materials, finishes, and layouts play a key role. Choosing non-toxic, high-quality products ensures spaces are safe, comfortable, and durable. Thoughtful design supports daily routines, encourages relaxation, and fosters a sense of calm.

Conscious design also considers how a home nurtures life and personal growth. Every space is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with oneself and others, and cultivate habits that uplift both body and mind. Our homes should be a place to live a better life and make us a better version of ourselves.

Beyond the physical, a home can influence mood, mindset, and energy. From the way light moves through a room to the textures and objects we surround ourselves with, interiors can spark joy, inspire creativity, and provide refuge from the pace of daily life. A home designed with wellbeing in mind becomes a sanctuary where life feels effortless, balanced, and fulfilling.
Accessibility
Conscious design is about creating homes that are inclusive, adaptable, and supportive of life’s changes. Spaces should accommodate people at different stages, allowing homes to remain comfortable, practical, and inspiring over time. Accessibility is not just about physical ease; it is about designing environments that foster connection, comfort, and wellbeing for everyone in the household.

Thoughtful design makes everyday routines more meaningful. Tactile, visually engaging, and carefully arranged spaces help people navigate their surroundings with ease, encourage interaction, and support learning and growth. Homes that consider sensory needs, practical requirements, and lifestyle habits allow everyone to pause, connect with family and friends, and live in a space that truly nurtures them.

Inclusive design also reflects care and consideration. By integrating these principles with high-quality materials, skilled craftsmanship, and bespoke solutions, accessibility becomes part of a refined, purposeful, and elevated home experience. A well-designed, inclusive home helps people live fully, comfortably, and with dignity while remaining a space of elegance, beauty, and joy.
Resilience
Conscious design considers how homes respond to change and support the people who live in them. Resilience is about creating spaces that are durable, flexible, and capable of withstanding everyday use and unexpected challenges. A resilient home provides comfort, safety, and peace of mind while minimizing environmental impact.

Designing for resilience begins with thoughtful materials, construction methods, and systems that enhance durability and efficiency. Homes that anticipate change are better equipped to adapt over time, whether that means adjusting layouts, optimizing natural light and airflow, or protecting against the increasing effects of climate change, heat, and UV exposure.

Resilient design also works in harmony with the natural environment. Aligning with patterns of light, ventilation, and energy helps reduce reliance on artificial systems, support wellbeing, and promote more sustainable living. Resilient homes are not only built to last; they create spaces that feel stable, nurturing, and reliable in a constantly evolving world.

The essence of resilience is balance. Durability paired with elegance, adaptability with beauty, and practicality with a sense of calm. A well-considered home allows people to focus on living fully and comfortably, confident that their space is prepared for today and for the future.
Engagement
Design goes beyond the walls of a home. Through workshops, talks, and community initiatives, we share knowledge and explore ways to inspire more mindful living. Engagement is not only about reaching out, but also about listening and learning from the people we connect with. Every dialogue helps us understand how design can have a positive impact on daily life, encouraging a more conscious and balanced way of living.

It is a two-way process that thrives on exchange and collaboration. By opening conversations with homeowners, students, craftsmen, and other professionals, we create opportunities to share experiences and ideas that influence how we think and design. This interaction allows us to respond to real needs, explore different perspectives, and keep evolving as designers who care about the human experience as much as the visual result.

Through these meaningful exchanges, we continue to refine our approach to conscious design. They help us uncover new methods of construction, experiment with materials that are kinder to the environment, and reimagine traditional craftsmanship in modern contexts. Most importantly, they remind us that design is never static; it grows with every conversation, shaping a more sustainable and inclusive industry for the future.
