Oceanfront

Grounded in a sustainable ethos, this project reimagines quiet luxury through the thoughtful use of tactile, eco-conscious materials.

Sustainability at Oceanfront

When the lift doors open, you’re greeted by an uninterrupted view of the sea; calm and expansive. That immediate connection to nature shaped the entire design approach. We didn’t want to distract from it with bold colours or over-styling, so we kept the palette restrained, using off-whites, wood tones, and layers of natural texture that gently frame the view instead of competing with it.

In the private lift lobby, a custom wood-panelled feature wall hides functional shoe storage. The bevelled detailing and varied woodgrains create a quiet rhythm, adding visual interest without overwhelming the space. Since this wall is visible from the main living area, we treated it like a seamless, sculptural focal point, and finished with just enough drama via a coloured beaded wood chandelier and some curated loose furniture.

The apartment’s wedge-shaped layout posed a challenge for symmetry, so we used materials to bring balance. A wood and rattan ceiling feature anchors the living area, adding warmth and structure. The oversized dining table, made from recycled railway sleepers with a pyrite stone top, is the centrepiece; tactile, raw, and grounded. Rope chandeliers overhead echo the coastal mood, while a niche lined with subtle wallpaper adds a hint of colour to the muted backdrop.

In the lounge, a custom geometric wall panel creates soft shadow play throughout the day. The area rug, made from PET recycled fibres, grounds the seating area, where crushed linen, rattan, and outdoor-grade finishes come together to offer comfort and durability in equal measure. At the rear of the apartment, where the view isn’t as strong, we converted the bay window into a relaxed coffee nook. Without blocking the windows, we still welcome a natural breeze and cross ventilation, while making better use of space.

Every wall in the apartment is finished in breathable lime plaster, which is a natural, sustainable material that helps regulate moisture and adds a stone texture throughout the home.

The kitchen sits in the darkest part of the apartment, so we leaned into its moodiness with dark wood cabinetry laid out in a seamless grid. Some panels are drawers, others are doors, but the clean lines keep things visually quiet. To lift the space, we used a lighter countertop, soft-toned wall tiles, and a fluted hood cover for gentle contrast.

In the primary bedroom, we repositioned the bed to float toward the view. This helps to frame the sea like a living painting. A custom headboard in wood, leather, and brass adds richness without heaviness.

Storage was key, so we introduced a walk-in wardrobe, dedicated vanity, and hidden overflow solutions. For the wardrobe doors, we used cork inlaid with gold leaf, adding a soft touch of quiet luxury. The ceiling above the bed, lined with grasscloth wallpaper, adds depth and a tactile finish.

The bathroom continues the same principles: simple, consistent tiles across walls and floors, softened by a curved vanity wall. A freestanding tub sits nestled among greenery and framed by windows, offering a spa-like experience that feels truly connected to nature.

Finally, in the study, we focused the desk to face the view, letting the sea inspire moments of stillness and focus. The space is dressed with loose furnishings, textured neutrals, and patterned curtains.

All these gentle layers quietly support the overall aesthetic for a multi use space.
