Kitchens

Our lives centre around the kitchen, and we demand a lot of function out of a small space.  It needs to both look great and work hard.

Designing kitchens to love for the years to come.

As designers, we dedicate a lot of time to ensure this activity hub of your home is well planned, timeless, and efficient. Over a decade ago, we were one of the first designers to introduce the shaker kitchen, using locally suitable materials. And since then, we have been innovating design styles and functionality. To ensure a kitchen is both beautiful and highly functional, me need to plan it carefully. While we must work within fixed limitations and regulations, we have our own set of guidelines to plan a kitchen layout centred around organisation, features, and efficiency.

Determine the usage

For us to create the best kitchen for your home, we need to understand how the kitchen is used, but also future proof it, in case these requirements change over time. One thing we learned from the pandemic, is that the kitchen is gaining back its key position in the home.

Regardless of if the kitchen is used to prepare a rushed breakfasts in the morning or cooking up lavish dinners for family and friends – we plan kitchens that work well for you.

We start of with simple space planning. We all heard about the working triangle in the kitchen to eliminate steps. But we also plan to cluster tasks together, for instance a zone for making coffee. Here we plan all java essentials like the coffee machine, coffee, and mugs at one place.

Plan the functions

Before we can properly plan a kitchen, we need to understand what appliances will be used early in the process. We standby power points, special plugs where needed and of course water inlets and outlets. In example, if your fridge requires a water inlet, we could pair it up with a water filter and place it where it is not in the way if multiple people use the kitchen.

Should you plan a dishwasher, we want to ensure that the working direction is easy, and we plan storage for plates and cutlery close by. Small appliances would need to be taken into consideration too, and if possible, an appliance bay is useful to keep these essentials close at hand.

Pick your vibe

We draw a lot of inspiration from kitchens all over the world, however we need to keep in mind our climate and usage. Before we plan a style, we need to determine how it is going to be constructed. A very detailed kitchen might not be ideal for cleaning up after heavy cooking. Spray paint finished kitchens, using MDF of chipboard might not be ideal if exposed to high wear and tear.

Select the materials

From tessellated floors to wallpaper backsplashes, we explore different materials and introduce new products with a focus on durability, maintenance and of course aesthetics. With a wide range of combinations from carpentry finish, countertop materials and backsplashes, we don’t forget about other elements that make the kitchen – like door handles, drawer systems like BLUM.
