Clean lines, heirloom quality materials and contemporary Peranakan accents come together in this HDB apartment overhaul. Making full use of the spacious lay-out, we are configuring the home to bring it up to date for modern living. Terrazzo floors are offset with blond woods and patterned tiled and set the tone for the colour scheme and overall design aesthetics.

Upon entering, the foyer features patterned tiles and rattan lined carpentry. Following our preferred enfilade lay-out, the living space is entered through a cased opening. While the living room reveals with its mid-century inspired furniture, more light is brought in through the mild steel framed glass that connects the living spaces and the chill out room.

By extending the kitchen, we can create a large bar counter, ample counter space and even a larder for more storage. By relocating the entrance into the common bathroom, we free up more space for the kitchen and the bathroom gets the more appropriate approach from the passage and not the kitchen.

The large master bedroom includes a walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom and enough space to zone the room for a reading nook and space for a large bed. In the study room, we are taking some space to create a storage room and the last bedroom will convert into a guest room.

The furniture is a mix of new mid-century inspired furniture, while the colour scheme and material choices adhere to Japanese influences. Natural materials provide a timeless design that can change with the owners’ tastes over the years.
