It is always a pleasure working with older HDB apartments, as we can really revamp the layout and create a whole new apartment that meets today’s needs and standards. This old HDB resale flat will get a complete overhaul, with expanded kitchen, larger bathrooms, and a much larger living space.
As a theme, contemporary clean lines featuring wood elements create a hybrid between a contemporary resort with a nod to mid-century design. Light stone flooring will flow through the unit, while the wood elements can be found in the architectural detailing like the arch trim around the doors and the skirting.
The kitchen will be open plan but can be closed off when the place is used for cooking. This way we can keep smells at bay, but not lose the openness of the space. We are very excited to incorporate an art installation divider between the kitchen and the yard. This piece will still let light through, as well as become the focal point of the entire home.
It is always exciting to bring features to unexpected places. It makes the home much more surprising. Fortunately, the owners were able to purchase the recess area outside their front door, so we can extend the house and create a proper foyer area. This is always a good idea to incorporate into a home, it helps to make a much easier transition between outside and indoor. It also is a great area to keep your shoes and other items you don’t want to have on display in your living space.
The bathrooms will look clean and neat and of course, we will conceal all the ugly pipes and work with concealed mixers and WC cisterns for that glamorous and understated look. The result will be like a high end condo – but on a HDB budget.
