Pied-à-Terre @ Holland Village
Holland Village (HDB 3-room Apartment)
Design areas: Living Room, Kitchen, Master Suite with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite and Common Bathroom | Project completed: 2015 | Renovation budget: SGD47,000
This shoe box sized apartment was a typical seventies HDB flat with low ceilings, irregular walls and a shared shower cubical and WC stall for two bedrooms. The floorplan was updated to modern living requirements, so an en-suite bathroom was added to the master bedroom and the walls were lined with drywall to hide services like water pipes as well as support columns.
The design is inspired by a Parisian Pied-à-Terre, a small apartment for wealthy landowners when they have to be in the city. Working on such a small scale, it is good to create a fuss free design. We edited all architectural detailing to clean lines, so the detailing is still there, but modernised and adhering to clean lines. Texture was added by the herring bone pattern wood flooring.
