Inspired by the cool colour scheme of Mykonos, this older HDB double story apartment got a clean lined overhaul. The entire ground floor walls were overlaid with a new drywall where architectural detail like niches and large base wall were added. This enabled us to hide all the electric wiring and achieve a modern look and feel. The archways under the stairs hint to the Greek and Moorish influence, while the square wall details in the corners add some additional texture and interest.
The flooring was cut to embed a mosaic strip in hand pulled glass, a detail that was repeated in the kitchen and the staircase. Bold colours were used in the furniture, the stained glass window light features that we designed and the artwork.
Adhering to the white colour scheme, the kitchen was updated with new cabinets. For the countertop, we grooved a line, so we were able to add the same mosaic detailing, the same tile that was picked up in the backsplash detail. This breaks with the functional lines in the kitchen and adds some character and much needed colour.
The owners and their young family wanted a functional space that was easy to maintain – so we edited all detail to a minimum and started to build up with accents that add character and interest. The end result is a clean looking, breezy apartment with a fantastic outdoor feel. Ideal for tropical living.
