From material choices to furniture selection to colours, these are often the broad stokes we tackle first when planning a design scheme. But it is in the planning of architectural details where we make a difference to the overall scheme. Architectural details refer to the elements of the design and finish and is fundamental to bring out a design aesthetic.
While often overlooked, these specifications highlight an aesthetic while adding visual interest, texture, and layering. At the heart of all our designs is a curated plan for these architectural details, from skirting boards to ceiling finishes – and all other elements in between.
While architectural detail is a small piece of the whole, it can characterize and define space and our surroundings. It brings harmony and familiarity, key points for a well-defined home. They play a crucial point in our designs as they explain the interiors’ concept, which is essential to understand the design and eventually, the space.
Some of our most successful projects allow us the freedom to explore these details. Introduce new interpretations of traditional styles. It helps to transform a basic HDB apartment into an English Manor house or accentuate a colonial vibe. Architectural details also help solve fundamental problems – i.e., how the flooring meets the wall or how a door frame is finished. Key is that their function needs to be defined and its purpose to be clear.
The form and shape of each detail can support the overall aesthetic, be it Scandinavian or Georgian, the details have patterns and finishings that strengthens the design and enhances the décor. We treat these details as the elements between elements – the seen and the unseen. It adds depth and helps us to understand, explore and appreciate the space. Without architectural details, our surroundings are incomplete.
